The Katana is perhaps the sword most surrounded by myths and legends. The reverence the Katana inspired in feudal Japan has grown, with the help of anime and Hollywood movies, into a reputation as the ultimate sword. Even amongst sword collectors and martial artists who discount the almost supernatural feats associated with it, the weapon retains its allure. The Katana is not only an aesthetically pleasing weapon; it has one of the sharpest cutting blades ever crafted. The blade, which is thicker than that found on either European swords or Chinese Jian, has a slight curve to facilitate both a slicing action and a lightning fast drawing cut from its seemingly harmless position stored at the waist (the Nukitsuke cut of Iaido). The curve, however, does little to diminish the sword's potential for quick deadly thrusts. The Katana is the basis of the Japanese arts of Kendo, Kenjutsu, and Iaido as well as the Korean art of Haidong Gumdo.

The Realistic Sparring Weapons Katana is based on an actual sword. Unlike either a Shinai (the bamboo sword used in Kendo sparring) or a Bokken (a wooden sword), the RSW Katana has the full weight and balance of the real sword. This realism allows for the full speed, full force execution of historical techniques that have traditionally been passed down as paired forms in which blows are pulled.

This Katana fits well a man of average height. If you are taller or shorter and know what you need, we can make a sword to your requirements.

Notice the handle on the right hand side is not circular but oval shaped, just like the real Katana's Tsuka (hilt). The blade is single edged and features 2 flats and 1 spine in addition to the edge.

There is also a Habaki featured above the Tsuba (the guard).

One of the main symbols of Samurai status was the right to wear two swords, the Katana and the shorter Wakizashi. Most Samurai wield their Katanas two-handed and the Wakizashi was mainly used in situations where the longer blade was a hindrance (like indoors). Musashi Miyamato, Japan's most famous swordsman, argued in his The book of five rings that this was a mistake and that it was bad to die with one of your swords still in its scabbard (Saya) unused. He developed the dynamic two-sword system of Niten Ichi Ryu in which the Katana is held in the right hand and the Wakizashi in the left. (Wakizashi were also the swords merchants were permitted to carry in feudal Japan, so quite a number of them still exist.)

The Tanto is a dagger with a blade structure similar to the Katana's. It is ideal for thrusting into the weak points of an opponent's armor. It also served as the tool to commit Seppuku to preserve a Samurai's honor as well as a self-defense weapon for women (as it could be carried in the sleeves of their kimonos). The Japanese developed a number of techniques to defeat longer weapons using just this dagger.

We'll repair the battle damage of your blade for 415 HKD. If you want the guard renewed also, it would be 415 HKD. The repair service excludes broken core.

The guard will be padded with foam for free by default. Shown below is an example of foam padding:
